Stage 2: Build Your Vision Board
Next, we’ll create a vision board to visualise your ideal style. This will include inspiration from your existing wardrobe, helping you see how to integrate your current pieces into a refreshed and personalised aesthetic.
Without an inspiration board, ideas and images can drift aimlessly in your mind. By capturing these thoughts, you can assess them both individually and collectively. The objective is to ensure they blend seamlessly, forming a cohesive and aligned vision, much like a harmonious chorus.
As you begin gathering inspiration, select a platform or tool that suits your preferences. The important thing is to keep everything organised and easy to access. I am always using Pinterest and creating my own boards (I post these onto Seamless Styling’s Instagram too with details).
How can you distinguish between what truly brings you joy and what you've been subtly influenced to like? Start by asking yourself:
Is this style or look currently everywhere?
While this isn’t automatically a bad thing—your genuine preferences might align with a trend—it should prompt a closer examination. Conversely, if you find yourself drawn to something that feels "off-trend" or less aligned with popular styles, take it as a positive indicator. It suggests you're following your instincts and personal taste rather than external pressures. And ask yourself why you like the photo? Ensuring it is because the outfit will look great on you and not because the model looks great in it. Visualise it on yourself.
When curating my Pinterest boards, I organise them by season and save outfits that are easy to style and complement my existing wardrobe. For instance, I might find an image of someone wearing a denim shirt layered with a shawl, paired with jeans and western boots. Since I already own similar pieces, it inspires me to create a new outfit combination I hadn’t considered before. I love the look, so I add it to my board and incorporate it into my wardrobe!
