Stage 1: Evaluate Your Wardrobe

If you don’t know where you’re headed, you’re bound to get lost—and that’s especially true when it comes to your wardrobe. The fashion industry thrives on uncertainty, constantly pushing the next big trend to keep you buying more. In its current form, it’s designed to sell as many clothes as possible, often leaving consumers overwhelmed and disconnected from their personal style.

This is why finding your own unique style is so essential—and why we’re here to help you on that journey!

Are You Shopping for Your Idealised Self?

A common pitfall many of us encounter is shopping for a version of ourselves that doesn’t quite align with reality: our idealised self. Fashion's transformative power can lead us to believe that certain outfits will make us feel like a different person, one who effortlessly fits a particular mold. Imagine slipping into a power suit and feeling like a high-powered entrepreneur or slipping into a sleek leather jacket to channel your inner rebel. These scenarios might feel exciting, but they cater to a version of you that isn’t grounded in your everyday life.

We all have an idealised self. She’s the one who effortlessly pulls off bold fashion choices, attends every social event with ease, and always has the perfect statement piece for any occasion. She’s more adventurous, more stylish, and seems to embody a level of confidence that feels just out of reach for the real you. However, dressing for your idealised self can leave you feeling disconnected from your authentic identity. Over time, it starts to feel like you’re wearing a costume, and your wardrobe becomes a collection of items that do not truly resonate with who you are. This is the moment to pause and re-evaluate.

How to Begin the Evaluation Process

Start by trying everything on. Ensure each piece fits well and reflects your current self. If something needs mending, either grab your sewing kit or take it to someone you trust. Create a separate pile for items you’re unsure about and style them with different pieces from your wardrobe. As you do this, ask yourself:

  • Does this outfit feel like me?

  • Does it excite me?

  • Can I envision myself wearing it confidently outside?

Through this process, you’ll begin to separate the clothes that align with your true self from those that don’t, setting the foundation for a wardrobe that genuinely reflects your unique style.
